"The true goal of yoga and meditation is for us to experience
complete inner freedom in our lives"

Welcome to the Zen Yoga Central website. We are based in Windsor,
Melbourne and run weekly
yoga and meditation classes as well as regular meditation and yoga
courses, workshops, retreats, intensives, private tuition and other
yoga and meditation events in Melbourne.
At Zen Yoga Central we consider the practise of yoga and meditation
to be a science of body and
mind which allows us to discover and experience the truth of our free
and boundless nature.
Regular yoga and meditation practice helps us to be more aware, present
and centred so that we
can participate more fully and deeply in this mysterious and magical
cosmic event called life!
Our yoga and meditation classes will help you experience more freedom,
vitality, ease, strength,
flexibility and openness in both your body and your mind - this is
sure to have a positive influence
on all aspects of your life allowing you to live with a clear and
open mind, a healthier more vibrant
and vivacious body, and a luminous, radiant spirit.
Our yoga teachings integrate principles from a number of yoga traditions
with influences primarily
from the Iyengar yoga, Ashtanga yoga and Sivananda yoga traditions.
Our classes range from
gentle through to dynamic practices for all levels of experience. Our
meditation teachings are from
the Zen Buddhist tradition with a modern non-religious approach that
is practical, effective, and of
tremendous benefit to daily life in the 21st century.

At Zen Yoga Central our motivation is to provide a welcoming and nurturing
environment
that allows students to go deeply into the practise of authentic Hatha
yoga and meditation.
We also aim to provide the opportunity for students to meet like-minded
people, develop
friendships and to feel part of a conscious and awakened community
that places great
importance on living in harmony with other beings and the environment.
Why practise Yoga?
The physical practices of yoga are powerful tools that can transform
our lives in many ways,
and not only on the physical level. Regular yoga practise can vastly
improve our health and
wellbeing allowing us to become more sensitive, aware and conscious
in our bodies.
With sustained yoga practise we begin to awaken and cultivate the
universal life-force energy
within our bodies which brings not only greater physical freedom,
but can also allow us more
flexibility, clarity and creativity within the ordinary workings of
our mind. For more detailed
information on our approach to teaching yoga download our information
for new students (pdf).
Why practise Meditation?
The word 'Zen' translates as 'meditation' or 'meditative mindfulness'
and it is through the practise
of meditation that we can experience an inner freedom and joy that
is not dependant on anything
outside of ourselves, regardless of what is going on in our lives.
Thoughts, feelings, emotions and
sensations all arise within a deeper purity of mind which is always
still, calm and free even in the
midst of inner turmoil. With regular meditation practise our minds
become clear and stable and
we can experience our boundless, timeless and imperturbable true nature.
Traditionally the physical practices of yoga are just the beginning
steps on the yogic path, and
what is necessary to experience the higher transformational stages
within the eightfold path of
yoga and Zen is the sustained practice of deep meditation. For more
detailed information on our
approach to teaching meditation download our
information
for new students (pdf).
"Yoga and Meditation, why bother? With correct understanding
and practise you can awaken
to the absolute purity of your deepest nature. Life's design is meant
to be erotic, not neurotic!"
